We were only in Bangkok for a night and headed off to Koh Chang ("Elephant Island"), an island off the eastern gulf coast, on Tuesday. Sean and I plan on returning to Bankok to see some of the sights of the city but since Peter, Ken and Daniel were on a tighter time frame we thought it would be cool to hang out as a group at the beach.
The ride to the pier was about five hours and the ferry was another hour so it was around mid-afternoon when we arrived on the island and found a hotel at White Sand beach. From the boat to the beach we all piled into pickup trucks-turned-taxis and enjoyed the island breeze from the back. Upon arrival we promptly donned suits and went swimming and walked along the water. The water temperature was great and there was plenty to look at including sand dollars, oodles of shells, beach-side bungalows and lots of palm trees. The view while swimming was pretty cool because the backdrop of the beaches and palm trees included mountainous jungles shrouded in clouds and mists. It was nice to relax on the beach and catch up with the other teachers since we hadn't seen them for a couple of weeks.
After catching the sunset we headed to dinner and enjoyed some Thai food along with music from a live Thai band playing American cover songs. After dinner we grabbed some beers and headed to the beach to hang out before cashing in for the night. Island life is the good life.
