After a few days in Donsol we flew back to Cebu where we found a cheap Pension to stay in. Cebu is a more laid-back and less chaotic place to fly in and out of than Manila. It also has a lot of cheap flights and ferries to nearby islands. The island of Cebu was one of Spain's first conquests in the Philippines and there are a lot of tourist attractions related to Spanish history.

There is the oldest street (Colon St.), the oldest university and the oldest fort. It is also famous for being the site of the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño where the oldest religious relic in the country is found. Nearby is a monument said to hold original pieces of Magellan's cross.
I found that the cities of the Philippines weren't nearly as enjoyable as the small towns and beaches. Traffic was loud and noisy, there were beggars and prostitutes everywhere that would verbally and physically harass you and there were signs warning tourists of "child flash mobs" - groups of children that would appear out of nowhere and rob you. During the day, Cebu was manageable but when it started getting dark we headed back to our pension. Cebu was the only place where I actually saw someone try and rob me. I was wearing a backpack and turned around to find someone's hand deep in the bag. There was nothing valuable in my pack so I just pulled it away and wore it on front for the rest of the walk home.
